About Torre Del Viejo

While Torre Del Viejo may have started eight years ago with the goal of becoming a brand, it has since moved beyond that objective; it has evolved and transcended into something akin to a laboratory. We have refocused our efforts on fabrics and construction methods that are more sustainable, durable, and innovative. The current global standard of "fast fashion" is highly damaging and unsustainable. We strive to develop high-quality essentials and technologically advanced garments in small batches to reduce the fashion industry's negative impact on the planet. TDV aims to be more than just a brand; it seeks to establish itself as a Puerto Rican institution dedicated to creating ethical, sustainable clothing. We do not need more clothing brands or more clothes; we need better garments—items that are reusable and built to last. Torre Del Viejo has set out to do exactly that.

I. HISTORY
Torre del Viejo was born—like many things in Puerto Rico—out of necessity. In 2016, Javier Cosme returned to the island revitalized after completing his military training. During his training, Javier used a range of materials he had never encountered before: GORE-TEX© for protection against cold and rain; Cordura© Canvas, valued for its durability and water-resistant properties in duffel bags; and OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) uniforms treated with permethrin to guard against insect bites. This experience served as the catalyst for the creation of TDV.
Between 2016 and 2018, while still a student at the University of Puerto Rico’s Cayey campus, Javier began researching how to develop clothing and accessories similar to those used by the military. He started working with cotton, polyester, and various blends, gaining an understanding of the planting and cultivation processes, seasonal factors, and the characteristics of different fabrics.
Torre del Viejo was founded in 2018. The name was inspired by an old Puerto Rican secret society established to combat the economic dominance Spain exerted over the island; the group emerged around 1890 and remained active until the Spanish-American War of 1898. The brand's logo features a colonial-style circular stamp design with a tower casting a shadow in the center, surrounded by lines symbolizing the ocean that encircles the island. The name appears at the top of the circle alongside the motto *"Fortitudine vincimus,"* which translates to "We conquered through strength" or "Through resilience, we conquer."
Torre del Viejo began creating garments using technologically advanced fabrics sourced from countries with expertise in their development: Japan, Germany, Peru, the United States, and Turkey. Three projects moved forward simultaneously: the LOSER jacket, the Viejo parka, and the Perfecta shirt. However, due to the high cost of transporting fabrics, the challenges of local manufacturing, and the multiple hurricanes that struck Puerto Rico between 2017 and 2020, the brand had to pause its operations.
It is now 2026—a year dedicated to R&D for Torre del Viejo. With nearly a decade of experience, the brand is ready to reinvent itself and show the world that Puerto Rico can indeed do better.
Torre del Viejo: Puerto Rican culture and excellence.

II. MISSION
Torre del Viejo aims to be the standard of quality and innovation representing Puerto Rico.
It achieves this by creating durable pieces that run counter to the global "fast-fashion" philosophy and honor the craftsmanship of those who make them.
III. VALUES
SUPERIOR CRAFTSMANSHIP
We have always focused on creating products built to last a lifetime—useful pieces that reflect the trust our customers place in us.
A SPIRIT OF INNOVATION
We began with the goal of creating new alternatives, employing fresh fabrics, methods, and approaches without discarding the hard-earned knowledge of the past.
INSIRING THE CUSTOMER
Showing the people of Puerto Rico that local companies can indeed stand as symbols of quality and local pride—companies that Puerto Ricans can point to and say, "Those are my people."
CULTURAL PASSION
Spreading knowledge and driving positive cultural growth that connects us with other local businesses and the community. We were founded on a bedrock of community, collaboration, and partnership; that spirit of solidarity will continue to fuel our efforts.
Together, these values define the identity of Torre del Viejo—at the intersection of superior craftsmanship, a spirit of innovation, inspiration, and a passion for culture—all driven by purpose.
